These educational essays are obviously different but also similar to a certain extent. Rose having a bar set for his education. Could you even imagine having someone else pick where you would go in school and having your abilities to a limit because you were no more than "average"? An assumption of your educational limit all based on one test. I feel as if kids take school for granted especially in high school because its a given and we have to go but it makes me wonder if every school had tests like these if kids would try more or be willing to just be an average Joe.. I could be wrong but i know that if my education was in someones hands other than my own i would try a lot harder to avoid ending up in a dead end. Although Rose and Malcolm's stories being different they both had someone come into their lives and make a difference make them want to try harder and not be limited to education. Malcolm teaching him self how to read while in prison.. How inspiring. It made me want to pick up the dictionary and read the whole thing. Both these essays showed that not everything is handed to you and you have to work for what you truly want out of life. We take things in life for granted for example knowing how to read.. I couldn't imagine teaching myself. I had my parents to teach me which makes me want to thank them for it. These essays also showed that both men shrived for something more in life that was expected for them.
I enjoyed reading these more so than our other examples not that the other to weren't important but Rose and Malcolm X's stories were life changing for them and i believe when we are writing our educational narrative essays that it should be something out we truly care about and couldn't imagine living without. Learning how to do something is so special it is amazing what we can do and no man or woman has a bar in life set for them, What one man can do another can do. It all just depends if we allow ourselves to learn.
